CAIRO – The Arab Economic and Social Council approved, at the end of its extraordinary session on Thursday, social and economic topics to be tabled on the agenda of the coming Arab summit to take place in Algiers in November.
The economic and social files will include 18 topics tackling different development issues, including a report following up the implementation of resolutions of the fourth session of the Arab development summit that was held in January of 2019 and another report on progress realised as regards the implementation of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area and the Arab Customs Union.
The topics also include, among others, the Arab vision towards digital economy, mechanisms of addressing tax challenges, economic and social recovery from the coronavirus pandemic, the Arab strategy for peaceful use of atomic energy, inter-Arab co-operation in the space domain, sustainable Arab agricultural development and Arab food security.
The council called on Algeria to raise again the idea of conducting a study featuring the problems posed by unofficial economy in Arab countries and submit it to the 110th session of the council after taking into consideration member states’ remarks in this regard in preparation for referring it to the coming Arab summit.
