Marking a major industrial milestone, the Arab Organisation for Industrialisation (AOI) announced on Tuesday the successful completion of a comprehensive overhaul and repair on the turbines of nitrogen fertiliser plants. Crucially, this work was conducted for the first time inside the country, thereby eliminating the necessity of sending them abroad, as had previously been the standard practice.
This achievement underscores the organisation’s advanced manufacturing capabilities, highly skilled workforce, and deep commitment to localising technology and bolstering domestic manufacturing, all in line with the national Vision for Sustainable Development 2030.
Major General Engineer Mokhtar Abdel Latif, Chairman of the AOI, emphasised that cooperation between the organisation and all governmental and private institutions is essential for achieving comprehensive development.
He explained that the AOI’s engine factory carried out a full overhaul of a high-speed steam turbine. The process included precise measurement, inspection, chemical analysis, and non-destructive testing using state-of-the-art equipment. The work also entailed the swift provision of raw materials and repair supplies, advanced chemical cleaning using steam and dry ice technologies, and high-precision machining operations.
Abdel Latif pointed out that such work previously required the turbines to be shipped overseas for nearly a year. This time, however, it was completed locally in just 25 days with a high degree of technical efficiency, thanks to the combined capabilities of the AOI’s aircraft and electronics factories.
He added that this success reflects the organisation’s ability to tackle complex industrial challenges in record time and supports national efforts to reduce reliance on foreign repair services. The AOI, he affirmed, aims to continue meeting the needs of various industrial sectors at home and in friendly countries by both manufacturing and maintaining essential equipment and production lines, thereby preserving national assets and reinforcing the country’s industrial independence.
