CAIRO – Assistant Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Rashid Khattabi, the head of the AL information and communication department, called for laying down ambitious Arab regulations for dealing with artificial intelligence (AI) in a balanced and realistic way.
He said this would help realizing digital transformation of member states.
Khattabi stressed, in the editorial of Issue (23) of “Bait Al Arab” magazine, the necessity of joining hands to promote knowledge and innovation in the Arab region, taking into account cultural and societal dimensions and means of interacting with initiatives proposed at the level of the United Nations and its relevant advisory body, and UNESCO.
This is meant to benefit from the promising uses of artificial intelligence in accelerating comprehensive development paths, he noted.
He said the department is following up all AI-related developments, highlighting fears of unsafe use of AI concerning respecting human rights and protecting personal data.
