The Arab League (AL) called on all countries championing peace and justice to support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and enable it to continue its role during these critical circumstances facing the Palestinian people.
The AL demanded forming an international investigation committee by the UN to hold those responsible for the killing of 380 UNRWA employees accountable and bring them before justice.
This came in the speech delivered by Ambassador Faid Mustafa, Assistant Secretary-General of AL and Head of the Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Sector at the opening session of the 114th conference of supervisors of Palestinian affairs in the host Arab states, which kicked off Sunday at the AL General Secretariat headquarters.
Mustafa stated that the Palestinian issue has passed through one of its most dangerous stages over the past two years.
The Israeli occupation sought and continues to seek the displacement of the Palestinian people and the implementation of the so-called “decisive plan” to end the Palestinian cause and destroy any chance for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with its capital in Al Quds, the ambassador said.
He pointed out that Israel launched a war of genocide on the Gaza Strip, aiming to destroy all means of life in the Strip and make it uninhabitable, thereby pressuring the Palestinian people there to displace them.
Faid added that the ceasefire agreement, followed by the Sharm El Sheikh Conference, and subsequently the issuance of UN Security Council Resolution 2803, represent the beginning of an important phase that necessitates action on all fronts.
He clarified that the situation in the West Bank remains extremely dangerous amid the Israeli occupation government’s continuation of its schemes to impose a fait accompli on the ground.
