As the Armed Forces commemorate the 51st anniversary of the historic October victory, the Air Force is celebrating the 92nd anniversary of its founding.
Air Force Commander Mahmoud Fouad Abdel-Gawad has reaffirmed the corps’ unwavering commitment to fulfilling its duties to safeguard the nation’s security and preserve its sovereignty as part of the Armed Forces’ integrated operations.
In statements marking the Air Force’s 92nd anniversary, Gen Abdel-Gawad said this mission is carried out within the framework of the Armed Forces integrated system of action and in accordance with the world’s latest air combat systems.
In his remarks, Abdel-Gawad congratulated Air Force personnel across various specialisations on the occasion of Air Force Day. He paid tribute to one of the most heroic battles in the Air Force’s history, which took place on October 14, 1973. On that day, the enemy launched an attack on air bases and airports in the Delta region. To their surprise, the Air Force eagles delivered the enemy a harsh lesson that will never be erased from their memory.
Despite the enemy’s numerical and qualitative superiority, the Air Force engaged them in the longest aerial battle, lasting over 50 minutes. The enemy lost 18 aircraft, and the remaining pilots could not keep fighting. This historic confrontation, known as the “Battle of Mansoura,” became a symbol of resilience, underscoring the Air Force’s ability to decisively defeat any threat to the nation’s potentials.
Abdel-Gawad also reaffirmed the consistent support provided by the country’s political leadership and the General Command of the Armed Forces, which has been pivotal in advancing the Air Force’s overall modernisation efforts.
A comprehensive strategic plan has been developed to equip the Air Force with state-of-the-art aircraft of various models, enhancing its capacity to protect Egypt’s airspace and reinforce the nation’s national security, he said.
Commander Abdel-Gawad voiced profound appreciation of the Air Force personnel for their dedication and professionalism, acknowledging their vital role in carrying out the vision of the political leadership and the Armed Forces General Command. He also called on them to continue their tireless efforts to sustain the Air Force’s record of success.
