Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk discussed Wednesday with India’s ambassador to Egypt Suresh Reddy and a delegation from leading Indian agricultural companies ways to enhance cooperation and joint investment in the agricultural sector.

The minister stressed depth of Egyptian-Indian relations, noting Egypt’s commitment to partnering with the private sector to achieve development.

Farouk pointed out that the government has taken a series of measures to encourage investment and improve its climate, especially in the agricultural sector, that offers promising opportunities.

For his part, the Indian ambassador emphasized his country’s interest in strengthening cooperation with Egypt, praising Egypt’s extensive expertise in agriculture.

During the meeting, both sides discussed mechanisms to encourage joint foreign investments to expand access to international markets, with a focus on areas including onion production and export, coconut cultivation and related technologies, as well as fodder and fertilizer production. 

They also stressed enhancing cooperation between research centers in both countries to exchange expertise in applied and agricultural research.

The two sides further explored benefiting from India’s broad experience in developing agricultural cooperatives, in addition to considering the possibility of holding virtual meetings between specialized companies in both countries to draw on Indian expertise in utilizing agricultural byproducts to improve soil quality and conserve water.
