CAIRO- Preparatory meetings for the fourth regular session of the committee of African local development ministers kicked off Monday under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

The committee will probe topics of public service, local governments, urban development and decentralisation.

The event will be attended by delegates from 55 African countries and representatives of the UN-Habitat, the World Food Programme and the UN Economic Commission for Africa.

Addressing the opening session, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Local Development Hamza Darwish praised the depth of Egypt’s relations with the African nations.

Egypt is committed to supporting the African Union (AU) institutions and committees to solve African issues, he said.

He voiced his ministry’s keenness on providing African nations with training and rehabilitation programmes through courses it offers in these fields.

Darwish also spoke about the Decent Life initiative, which he described as one of the most important development programs at the African level.
