Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Hussein Eissa, on Thursday followed up on the latest developments of the national project to develop the spinning and weaving industry across the country.
Managing Director and CEO of the Holding Company for Cotton, Spinning, Weaving and Garments, Ahmed Shaker, and Chairman of the National Company for General Contracting and Supplies, Essam Galal, attended the meeting.
Eissa emphasised that the spinning and weaving sector is a strategic industrial sector of major economic and historical importance.
Revitalising the sector is a national priority aimed at restoring the global standing of Egyptian cotton, maximising the added value of the national textile industry, and supporting efforts to increase production, exports, and the competitiveness of the Egyptian economy, he said.
Eissa also stressed the importance of closely monitoring all stages of implementation, adhering to approved schedules, intensifying field follow-up, and accelerating the commissioning of new production capacities in line with the highest standards of efficiency and quality.
He further highlighted the need for efficient operation of newly established factories and the optimal utilisation of the significant investments directed to the sector.
The Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs also underscored the importance of strengthening marketing efforts and opening new export markets for Egyptian products, thereby enhancing the sector’s leadership, boosting exports, and ensuring sustainable economic returns.
Eissa further stressed the importance of strengthening partnerships with the private sector, particularly in management and operations, in order to apply best governance practices, enhance performance efficiency, and achieve financial and operational sustainability.
For his part, Shaker reviewed the implementation progress of the development phases.The first phase of Misr Spinning and Weaving Company in El-Mahalla El-Kubra has been completed and is now operational, including new spinning mills (1 and 4), textile preparation mills (1 and 2), and the power station, he said.
Shaker added that the second phase is nearing completion and includes spinning mills (6), weaving units, dyeing facilities, and tailoring factories.
He also confirmed the completion and operation of spinning mill (2) at Misr Shebin El-Kom Spinning and Weaving Company.
He further explained that the third phase includes new integrated complexes for spinning, weaving, textile preparation, and tailoring, in addition to a new power station at Misr Spinning and Weaving Company and the Al-Bayda dyeing plant in Kafr El-Dawwar.
It also covers development projects in Damietta, Dakahlia, Upper Egypt Spinning and Weaving Company in Minya, and the modernisation of weaving, dyeing, and tailoring facilities at Helwan Spinning and Weaving Company.
