CAIRO – Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit left for Beijing to attend the 10th Ministerial Conference of the China-Arab States Co-operation Forum, set for Thursday.
Abul Gheit was coming from Brussels, where he participated in a meeting with European foreign ministers on the Palestinian issue.
In statements on Wednesday, Arab League Spokesman Gamal Roushdi said that during his visit to China, he will hold a number of official meetings with senior statesmen, including the Chinese foreign minister and vice president, to discuss the latest preparations for the ministerial meeting.
Abul Gheit will also exchange views with the Chinese side on the most important issues on the regional and international arena, topped by the Palestinian issue, particularly in light of efforts exerted to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, the spokesman added.
In light of the growing cooperation relations between the Arab and Chinese sides in different fields within the framework of the Arab-Chinese Co-operation Forum, the AL General Secretariat prepared a documentary book about the forum on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of its founding, the spokesman added.
The book includes the most important milestones in the history of the forum, its main documents and a review of its successful journey, the spokesman added.
Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the opening ceremony of the conference and deliver a keynote speech.
Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi and Mauritania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad Mohamed Salem Ould Merzouk will co-chair the conference.
Foreign Ministers or representatives of the Arab states will also attend the conference.
