Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit has hailed Japan’s support for the Palestinian cause and its financial assistance to UNRWA.
A statement issued by the Pan-Arab Organization said Abul Gheit’s statements came during a meeting Sunday with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, currently on a three-day visit to Egypt as part of an overseas tour, accompanied by a high-level delegation.
Arab League spokesman Gamal Roshdy said Abul Gheit welcomed the Japanese prime minister’s visit to the league headquarters and hailed as strong relations binding Japan with Arab countries.
Roshdy said Abul Gheit appreciated Japan’s support to the two-state solution plan and its rejection of the Israeli settlement policies.
He expressed the keenness of the Arab League on boosting cooperation with Tokyo to the highest level especially after the Arab-Japanese economic forum founded in 2009 and the Arab Japanese memo of cooperation signed in 2013.
According to Roshdy, the talks dealt with issues of mutual concern on the international arena especially in Sudan, pointing out that the Japanese prime minister expressed his country’s support for international efforts aimed at ending violence and supporting transition to a civilian democratic rule.
The meeting touched on the war in Ukraine where Abul Gheit listened to Japan’s viewpoint on the crisis and its effects on the region.
The Japanese prime minister delivered a speech during a conference of the league permanent representatives in which he praised Arab-Japanese cooperation in the economic, social and political fields.
