Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty underlined on Thursday the importance of cautiously handling the critical stage and the serious juncture the region is currently passing through.

He underlined the importance of avoiding attempts to drag the region into catastrophic confrontation that could lead to a wide-scale regional war of destructive consequences on all sides.

Abdelatty made the remarks during his meeting with Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi. The meeting tackled consecutive regional developments in Lebanon, the Gaza Strip and the Red Sea.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Tamim Khallaf said Abdelatty underlined the need to reach an immediate ceasefire agreement in Gaza, ensure unrestricted entry of humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip to contain the current disastrous humanitarian situation there and reach a formula that would bring stability and security to the region.

He reiterated Egypt’s stance calling for addressing roots of conflict in the region through setting up a Palestinian state within June 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital and in accordance with relevant international resolutions.

Abdelatty expounded Egypt’s stance towards the serious developments in the region, including the Red Sea and Lebanon, reiterating Egypt’s full rejection of any attempt to undermine the sovereignty of Lebanon and the integrity of its territories.

He called for rallying efforts to reach an immediate ceasefire and put into effect UNSC resolution 1701 on all sides without any discrimination.

He underlined the need to boost Lebanon’s State institutions, especially the army, to enable it extend its authority all over the country.

As for presidential vacuum in Lebanon, he said this file should be addressed without any foreign dictations.
