ASSIUT, Upper Egypt – Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Health Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said on Wednesday that the Egyptian state gave priority to the health and education sectors over the past seven years.
During an inauguration of various development projects in Upper Egypt, Abdel Ghaffar made reference to directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to expand the system of higher education and health services as tools to serve Egypt’s development.
He pointed out that dozens of Egyptian universities were established in the past seven years.
A total of 126 billion pounds were pumped to invest in the health and education sectors in Upper Egypt, Abdel Ghaffar noted.
Abdel Ghaffar said that the State provided subsidies for six private universities in the Upper Egyptian cities.
Educational projects will be inaugurated soon in Luxor, Assiut and Minya with investments worth 12 billion pounds, he noted.
Abdel Ghaffar said that the health projects established in Upper Egypt serve 55 million citizens across the nation.
There are 154 hospitals in Upper Egypt with a bed capacity of 10,259, he said, adding that the government works now on implementing the universal health insurance system in the Upper Egyptian governorates.
