Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptians Abroad Badr Abdel-Aati affirmed Egypt’s commitment to further strengthening relations with the United Kingdom and expanding avenues of political, economic and investment co-operation in a manner that serves the mutual interests of both countries.
During a meeting held on Wednesday in London with members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the British House of Commons, chaired by Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee Emily Thornberry, Minister Abdel-Aati stressed the importance of building upon the historical ties between Egypt and the United Kingdom and elevating bilateral co-operation to broader levels across multiple sectors.
During the meeting, Minister Abdel-Aati highlighted the significant role of the British Parliament in supporting bilateral relations and underlined the importance of strengthening parliamentary engagement through increased reciprocal visits and sustained communication between legislators in both countries, said the Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ambassador Tamim Khallf.
He added that the minister noted that such efforts would contribute to enhancing mutual understanding and facilitating exchanges on issues of common concern.
Minister Abdel-Aati also stressed the importance of advancing economic, trade and investment relations between Egypt and the United Kingdom and making use of the promising investment opportunities available within the Egyptian market across several strategic sectors.
He also highlighted the imminent establishment of the Egyptian-British Friendship Group within the Egyptian Parliament and emphasised the importance of revitalising communication and engagement between the parliamentary friendship groups of both countries.
The discussions also addressed a range of regional and international developments, with Minister Abdel-Aati reviewing Egypt’s perspective regarding the escalating geopolitical challenges facing the region.
He also outlined Egypt’s ongoing efforts aimed at de-escalation and containing tensions in support of regional peace and stability.
The foreign minister additionally highlighted the adverse effects of regional tensions on freedom of international navigation, global supply chains, international trade and energy markets.
The meeting further included an exchange of views on several regional issues, particularly developments related to the Palestinian issue, Lebanon, Syria, Libya and Sudan.
Minister Abdel-Aati, in this respect, reaffirmed Egypt’s continued support for political solutions, preserving national institutions, and safeguarding the unity and territorial integrity of Arab states.
