The second edition of the first world forum dedicated to the transformation of the tourism industry, A World for Travel, kicked off in Nîmes on Thursday.
During the two-day forum, international participants from the public and private sector, academics, experts, entrepreneurs and consultants will hold discussions on tourism and sustainability as well as tourism solutions that go hand in hand with climate challenges.
Attending the forum are also top government officials from the tourism industry from Egypt, Greece, Tunisia, Portugal, Jamaica and Moldova.
Egyptian Vice Minister for Tourism Ghada Shalaby will share an update about COP 27, which will be held in Sharm El Sheikh next month. She will also give a speech about Egypt’s destination sustainability from community engagement to economic diversity.
Nearly 400 participants from 35 countries are taking part in the forum. In 2021, the conference attracted 56,000 virtual connections to the live stream.
Xavier Douais, Deputy Mayor of Nîmes in charge of Tourism, said that Nîmes was chosen to host the forum for several reasons: its privileged location on the Rhone Valley-Italy-Spain axis with 3 direct motorway exits, 2 TGV stations with connections to Paris and Roissy airport, as well as to the main cities and their airports, not forgetting access to the TER network.
“But also because the ancient city is a city where history has left its mark for 2,000 years, as evidenced by the three main monuments: the amphitheatre, the Maison Carrée and the Tour Magne, buildings that are today among the best preserved in the world,” he added in a press statement.
