Speaking during military inspection of a line-up of the Sixth Armored Division in the Suez Canal city of Ismailia, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi reaffirmed a vision that has been central to Egypt’s identity since the October War of 1973: peace as a strategic choice.

A Vision for Peace 2 - Egyptian Gazette

His words serve as a powerful reminder of the resilience and wisdom that have guided Egypt through decades of regional turmoil and conflict.

Reflecting on the historical context of the October War, President Sisi highlighted the impressive victory achieved against formidable odds, emphasising that it was not merely about military strength but rather about the indomitable will and strategic foresight of the Egyptian leadership that led to this triumph.

The aftermath of that war saw Egypt, not only reclaiming its territory, but also embarking on a path of lasting peace, one that continues to be relevant until today.

“War is the exception,” the Egyptian leader said. “Peace, construction, and development are the basis,” he added, probably encapsulating the essence of Egypt’s strategic choices in the past 51 years and for many years to come.

This philosophy is particularly significant in the light of the current geopolitical landscape where instability is rife and the spectre of conflicts looms large.

President Sisi’s insistence that Egypt has “no hidden agenda” resonates with a population weary of unrest and eager for stability.

Moreover, the president’s assertion that Egypt has a steadfast commitment to the Palestinian cause underlines a broader regional perspective.

By acknowledging the deeply-rooted significance of this issue for the Arab world, he positions Egypt as a leader advocating for justice and coexistence.

His emphasis on the Palestinian right to an independent state reflects a humanitarian approach that seeks to align national interests with the aspirations of neighbouring peoples.

In a world where the noise of discord often drowns out calls for dialogue and co-operation, President Sisi’s address stands as a clarion call for unity and stability.

He articulated a vision where the role of the Armed Forces transcends military might and makes them the guardians of the nation’s sovereignty and the architects of peace.

This dual responsibility underscores the importance of the presence of a military that, not only defends the nation, but also participates in the creation of a better future for all Egyptians.

Furthermore, the gratitude the president expressed to the command of the Armed Forces reinforces the notion of collective responsibility.

By recognising the efforts of military personnel, he fosters a spirit of camaraderie and shared purpose, essential for nurturing a resilient society that prioritises peace and development over conflict.

As Egypt continues to navigate the complexities of regional and global politics, the wisdom encapsulated in Sisi’s words offers a guiding light.

The recognition that peace is a proactive choice, one that requires commitment, vision, and unity, will be crucial for Egypt as it seeks to build a stable and a prosperous future.

President Sisi’s speech, not only commemorates a historic victory, but also calls for renewed dedication to peace, development, and co-operation.

It is a message that echoes across borders, reminding us all that, despite our differences, the pursuit of harmony and understanding is a universal aspiration.

Let us heed this call and work together towards a future where peace prevails over conflict and co- operation triumphs over division.
