CAIRO – Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Aati said the 5th edition of Cairo Water Week, scheduled for October 16-19, aims to raise awareness about water issues, promote innovations to face urgent water challenges by unconventional methods using modern technology, support integrated water management policies, and reach sustainable solutions to manage water resources with a view to confronting the population growth and climate change.
The minister made the remarks during his meeting with head of the planning sector at the ministry Dr. Eman Sayed to discuss preparations for the event that will be organized under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
This year’s edition of Cairo Water Week will be held under the theme “Water at the Heart of Climate Action” in reference to the State’s belief in the importance of water in the climate change file, Abdel Aati said.
This key annual event comes within the framework of the State’s great interest in the water file that is being placed at the top of its political agenda; given its importance for sustainable social and economic development, he added.
It will also be a culmination of Egypt’s leading regional role, whether in the Arab region or Africa, he said.
During the Cairo Water Week, water actors and stockholders around the world would have the opportunity to present and discuss key issues, policies, strategies, plans, and measures related to climate-water challenges.
