The 53rd Cairo International Book Fair will be held from 26 January to 7 February at the Egypt Centre for International Conferences and Exhibitions.
Minister of Culture Enas Abdel Dayem held a press conference at Al-Manara Conference Center in the Fifth Complex to announce the details of this year’s event.
Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly will open the Book Fair, which is being held under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
Greece will be guest of hour at this year’s event, themed ‘The identity of Egypt – Culture and the Question of Future’.
Abdel Dayem thanked President Sisi for his generous sponsorship, adding that this year will witnesses the launch of the digital book project at the Egyptian General Book Authority, which begins with an Encyclopedia of Ancient Egypt.
The late writer Yahya Haqqi will appear through hologram technology and children can watch a story by Abdel Tawab Youssef holographically with 3D glasses.
Events include a programme to promote and develop the publishing industry and to provide a platform for publishers and those who are working in the book industry.
Book sales can be done online on the fair’s digital platform and deliveries in co-operation
with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Egyptian Post.
This edition is one of the largest forums for publishers in the world. Egyptian, Arab and foreign publishers and agencies from 50 countries will be taking part this year.
Activities for children including art workshops, storytelling and reading workshops, and plays are features, as well as seminars and lectures on culture and fine arts.
This edition will also show films that treat issues in Egyptian and Arab society and the filmmakers will hold seminars.
