CAIRO – Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said 2,648 Egyptians were evacuated from the unrest-hit Sudan Thursday, bringing to 5,327 the number of Egyptian evacuees so far.
In press statements, he said 1,283 Egyptian citizens were evacuated from Sudan via air, while 1,356 others were evacuated via land.
On Sunday, Egypt started evacuating its nationals from safe areas in Sudan in coordination with the Sudanese authorities.
The Egyptian Embassy in Khartoum and the consulates in both Khartoum and Port Sudan, as well as the consular office in Wadi Halfa, are continuing their efforts around the clock to evacuate Egyptians from Sudan.
In a statement Friday, the Foreign Ministry said that its consular sector’s operations room continues to receive phone calls from the citizens at home and abroad around the clock on the following numbers:
