Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Gohar Nabil, has emphasised that the ongoing development witnessed in Egypt’s sports sector reflects the strong support of the political leadership.
Such support places significant importance on building the Egyptian citizen and promoting sport as a fundamental pillar of sustainable development.
He noted that current directives focus on expanding the base of sports participation and increasing community-based activities that target all segments of society.
The minister made these remarks during a meeting he called on Sunday with Cairo Governor, Ibrahim Saber, where both sides discussed ways to strengthen co-operation between the Ministry and the Governorate and enhance coordination to serve the residents of the capital.
The meeting also reviewed plans to launch a series of sporting events across Cairo Governorate, the ministry said in a statement.
Minister Nabil highlighted that continued support has enabled the implementation of numerous sports projects and the development of infrastructure, contributing to improved quality of life and supporting the state’s vision of building a healthy and active society.
He stressed the importance of strengthening partnerships with governorates to ensure the effective implementation of sports programmes and initiatives at the local level.
For his part, Governor Saber praised the significant progress achieved in sports infrastructure under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, affirming that the governorate is working in close coordination with the Ministry of Youth and Sports to support young people and further develop sports facilities.
He also commended the ministry’s efforts in nurturing sporting talent and improving services provided in youth centres, stressing the importance of continued co-operation to reinforce the youth and sports system in the capital.
The two sides also discussed the implementation of several major sporting events in Cairo, including a series of marathons in various locations aimed at promoting sports participation and encouraging healthy lifestyles among citizens.
They further reviewed a proposal to organise a marathon starting from the Egyptian Museum, highlighting the integration of sport and tourism and showcasing Cairo’s cultural and historical significance.
