CAIRO – Egypt’s Tourism and Antiquities Minister Ahmed Eissa asserted that tourism in Egypt is witnessing significant growth as 2023 witnessed the highest rate of tourists in the history of Egyptian tourism.
He added that 14.906 million tourists had visited Egypt in 2023 while the first 19 days in 2024 had witnessed a growth in tourism rate by 9 percent comparing to the same period in 2023.
This came in his interviews with a number of Spanish new agencies and newspapers including EFE, El Economista, Hosteltur and Ladevi within the minister’s current visit to Madrid.
The minister also stressed the importance of tourism industry for the Egyptian national economy as it is considered among the main sources of foreign currencies, adding that it also provides job opportunities as well as its great role in reaching interconnection among various peoples and cultures.
He added that the Egyptian state aimed at achieving a swift growth in tourism industry that reaches 25-30 percent annually.
The minister added that the State also aimed at increasing the number of tourists to Egypt to reach 30 million by 2028 and that means increasing Egypt’s share of tourism in the global tourism from 1.6 to 1.7 percent in 2028.
