Minister of Health and Population Hala Zayed yesterday announced that plasma collection centres nationwide received 1,320 donators since the launching of the national plasma donation project on July 14.
The project comes as part of a presidential initiative for achieving self-sufficiency in producing plasma derivatives.
In press statements, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said that six centres in five governorates were designated for plasma donation as a first stage.
He added that another 20 centres would be allocated for plasma donation this year.
Megahed noted that those centres are working throughout the week from 8am till 10pm.
Megahed urged citizens over 18 years to effectively take part in the project by donating blood once every two weeks and becoming permanent donors.
The project aims to ensure the availability of treatment for many chronic diseases, including liver and kidney diseases.
On July 14, the health minister was the first to donate plasma in Ehab Serag El-Din Centre for blood transfusion services in Giza’s al-Agouza district.
