Chairman and Managing Director of the New Egyptian Countryside Development Company, Major General Amr Abdel Wahab, participated in a meeting of the Defence and National Security Committee of the House of Representatives, as part of the committee’s ongoing follow-up of strategic national projects, foremost among them the national project for the reclamation, cultivation, and development of 1.5 million feddans.
Committee Chairman Lieutenant General Mohamed Abbas Helmy reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to monitoring projects that support Egypt’s national security across its economic, food, and development dimensions.
During the meeting, Major General Abdel Wahab presented a detailed review of the latest developments in the project, highlighting the progress achieved by the company in infrastructure works, including roads, electricity networks, and drinking water facilities, as well as land preparation and allocation procedures, and the development of services provided to investors and beneficiaries.
He reviewed the company’s efforts to accelerate development across project sites through close coordination with ministries and relevant authorities to remove obstacles facing investors and small farmers, maximise the utilisation of reclaimed land and increase agricultural productivity.
Abdel Wahab stressed that the company is implementing a comprehensive plan to raise completion rates, expand agricultural and productive investments and provide a stable investment environment that supports the state’s objectives of increasing cultivated areas, strengthening food security and establishing new agricultural and urban communities beyond the Nile Valley and Delta.
He described the 1.5 million feddan project as a comprehensive model for sustainable development, noting that it aims to achieve food, water and development security as essential pillars of Egyptian national security and reflects the political leadership’s vision for building the New Republic.
Committee members held extensive discussions on implementation rates, infrastructure completion, irrigation water resources, modern irrigation systems, investor attraction mechanisms, and support for small beneficiaries.
Abdel Wahab confirmed that implementation is proceeding according to clear timelines and performance indicators with continuous field monitoring and coordination with state institutions.
