Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi witnessed the launching of the activities of the Youth and Climate Caravan to raise environmental awareness and climate change for youth and children.
Sobhi spoke of his ministry’s commitment to educate youth about successive climate changes, and the importance of preserving the environment, exploiting and exploring the green energy through a package of various projects and programmes, in co-operation with institutions concerned with climate change and going green, in light of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
The Youth and Climate Cravan initiative is being implemented by the Central Department of Young People’s Development – General Department of Gifted and Creative Welfare Cairo International Book Fair 2024, as part of its provincial tours, in co-operation with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and UN-Women, The SRS initiative, in light of the reduction of the causes of climate change, raised public awareness of the phenomenon and its economic dimensions and its handling, With the participation of a group of young people and representatives of the participants, in the presence of Mr. Grimy Hopkins, UNICEF Representative in Egypt.
Sobhi noted that the Youth and Climate Caravan is one of the the most important initiatives launched by the Ministry in cooperation with UNICEF as The driving-force to support youth engagement in climate change action ,to raise awareness of climate change and promote environmental education and climate action for future generations.
Egypt is keen to enable youth and to play an effective role within the framework of international efforts to combat climate change, Sobhi added.
The Youth and Climate Caravan continued its activities at the Cairo International Book Fair 2024, where the thirteenth day of the fair included a workshop on defining climate change, workshops on children’s rights to climate justice and a workshop on rooftop farming.
A delegation from the Youth and Climate Caravan participated in the dialogue session that dealt with the Future of Youth and Youth Development in Egypt.
