Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel el-Wazir arrived in the British capital, London, to lead the official Egyptian delegation at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) General Assembly meetings, which will include elections for the organization. Egypt is running for re-election in Category (C) of the IMO Council.
In a press release on Thursday, the Ministry of Transport said that Wazir will highlight, during the IMO meetings, Egypt’s significant qualifications for membership on the IMO Council, especially its importance as a leading maritime nation.
He will also present Egypt’s ambitious strategy over recent years to develop and modernize its ports and create new ones, which now play a crucial role in supporting regional and international trade. This is particularly important given the presence of key global maritime routes, such as the Suez Canal.
During his visit to London, Wazir is also scheduled to meet with a number of transport ministers from friendly and brotherly countries, as well as with many heads of major global companies operating in the transport and industrial sectors, in addition to maritime chambers, to discuss joint cooperation and review various investment opportunities in light of Egypt’s promising investment climate.
