CAIRO – Trade exchange between Egypt and Sudan declined 6.4% during 2023, registering $1.4 billion, down from $1.5 billion in 2022, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
In a statement released recently, CAPMAS stated that Egyptian exports to Sudan amounted to $979.9 million in 2023, up from $954.3 million in 2022, marking an increase of 2.7 percent.
Meanwhile, Egyptian imports from Sudan were estimated at $386.9 million in 2023, compared to $505.4 million in 2022, indicating a slump of 23.4 percent.
As for key commodity groups Egypt exported to Sudan in 2023, grain mill products ranked first with a value of $260 million, followed by sugar and its products at $79 million, soap at $49 million, plastics at $47 million and clothes at $45 million.
Remittances from Egyptian expatriates in Sudan reached $13.3 million during the 2021/2022 fiscal year, up by 2.7 percent compared to $12.9 million during the previous fiscal year.
