The “Masajid” development corporation has signed an LE150-million co-operation protocol with the Ministry of Waqfs (Religious Endowments) for the development and maintenance of the al-Hussein Mosque, Old Cairo, the corporation said in a statement.

Minister of Awqaf Dr Mohamed Mukhtar Gomaa, Dr Osama Al-Azhari, Advisor to the President for Religious Affairs, and a large number of officials attended the signing ceremony together with Dr. Ali Gomaa, honorary president of the corporation, and Dr Niazi Salam, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the corporation.

The corporation aims through signing the protocol to be a pioneer entity in uniting efforts and preserving the mosques of Ahl al-Bayt (Prophet Muhammad family members), and raising awareness of their shrines through co-operation with all concerned parties.

The Masajid corporation will contribute, through the protocol, by an initial amount of LE150 million to the development process, which will cover all parts of the mosque – floors, walls and ceilings – as well as modernising all electricity, water, sewage, air conditioning, surveillance, alarm, and firefighting systems. As per the protocol also, the mosque will be utilised by the state-of-the-art sound systems internally and externally.

Following the completion of the development works, the corporation will be responsible for the operation, maintenance and cleanliness of the mosque in accordance with the highest standards of hygiene in force globally, which contribute to reducing the spread of epidemics and diseases and maintaining public health.

The development process will be implemented under the supervision of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority, the corporation concluded in its statement.
