CAIRO – Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawy began a visit to Nicosia at the invitation of his Cypriot counterpart Giorgos Papanastasiou for talks on liquifying Cypriot natural gas in Egypt.

The two ministers discussed ways to expedite the exploitation of natural gas discoveries within the exclusive economic zone of Cyprus, the Petroleum and Mineral Resources Ministry said in a statement.

Talks tackled updates of the regional and international energy landscape and dynamics as well as the need to enhance cooperation between Egypt and Cyprus regarding the implementation of a reliable energy corridor extending from the Eastern Mediterranean to Europe to transport natural gas and green energy.

The two sides also tackled ways to accelerate the development of natural gas reserves in Cyprus using the existing infrastructure in Egypt, and the transport of gas from the exclusive economic zone of Cyprus to Egypt in order to be liquified and exported to other countries.
