CAIRO – Egypt’s Petroleum Minister Tarek el Molla and Chairman of China Energy Engineering Corp Ltd Song Hailiang attended the signing of two memorandums of understanding to boost cooperation in the green energy field.
The MoUs were signed by the China International Energy Group, the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation and North Abu Qir Company for Agricultural Nutrients.
The Petroleum Ministry, in a statement on Friday, said that under the first MoU, a joint project to produce green hydrogen will be built at the North Abu Qir Agricultural Nutrients Company.
While the second memo includes examining opportunities to exploit renewable energy sources in the various oil and gas sites in Egypt.
During their meeting, Molla invited the delegation of the Chinese corporation to participate in the Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES) in February 2024.
For his part, the chairman of the Chinese corporation stressed the importance of cooperation with Egypt in various domains, deeming it as a top priority.
He added that his company is looking forward to cooperating with the Egyptian petroleum sector in implementing important green energy projects.
He also extended an invitation to the petroleum minister to visit China and make a tour of the Chinese corporation’s projects.
Since 2009, the Chinese company has entered the Egyptian market and sought to expand its business portfolio in Egypt with the aim of meeting the growing global demand for hydrogen, along with providing technological solutions for energy transition, emissions reduction and petrochemicals, he further noted.
