The Information Centre of the National Food Safety Authority issued its 46 weekly reports for the period from December16 – 22, which include many different activities.
The National Food and Safety Authority (NFSA) participated in a virtual meeting with Qatari health officials to discuss the mechanisms of a regulatory labour on Egyptian food exports to Qatar.
The meeting tackled NFSA’s role in inspecting food exports to foreign markets. Also, the meeting asserted the importance of Qatari companies in dealing with accrediting facilities recorded in NFSA’s white list.
It’s mentioned that there is cooperation between the NFSA and Egyptian agricultural quarantine to ensure the control system for various exports.
At the end of the meeting, they agreed to visit Egypt to inspect Egyptian agricultural packaging centres to understand the regulatory system.
The General Administration of Factories Control carried out 100 supervisory missions on food factories in all governorates during the third week of December.
Eight food facilities were registered with the National Food Safety Authority, and five factories were listed on the white list.
Examination, inspection, and accreditation visits by the Department of Control of Packing Stations and Centres reached 49; 6 establishments were registered; 1 facility was listed on the white list; and 2054 export permits were issued to agricultural crops.
Sweet potatoes continue to top the list of exported Egyptian vegetables by 10000 tons, followed by beans with a total of 7000 tons, tomatoes with a total of 5000 tons, and citrus fruits topped the list of exported fruits last week with a total of 55,000 tons, followed by strawberries and pomegranates with a total of 100,00 and 4000 tons, respectively.
Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Libya, and Russia represented the largest recipients of Egyptian exports over the past week out of a total of 170 importing countries.
The General Administration for Registration and Licensing of Private Food registered 74 products and 8 companies, carried out 6 supervisory visits, examined 576 new products, and issued 8 free sale certificates.
The General Department of Slaughterhouses conducted 7 inspection visits to poultry and meat slaughterhouses, in addition to issuing 11 visits to natural envelope factories.
The food safety branch in Gharbia, Menoufia, Damietta, Al-Sharqia, Aswan, Minya,Sohag, Kafer el-Sheikh,Assiut, South Sinai, and Faiyum governorates launched extensive inspection campaigns to ensure the implementation of food safety requirements.
This came as part of the efforts of the directives of Dr. Tarek el-Hobi, Chairman of the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA), to tighten the control over food establishments to ensure the safety of the food products offered and to preserve the health of consumers in various governorates.
