Chairman of the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA), Dr. Tareq el-Houby, met Obai Rahimi, Head of Government Relations and Companies for the Middle East and Africa Corporate Affairs Director-Middle East & Africa at Mars.
Mars is one of the leading American companies in the food industry in the world.
El-Houby reviewed the company’s current and future projects in the Egyptian and global markets, as well as the challenges facing the company and possibilities to resolve them in the coming period.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Export Council for Food Industries, the Chamber of Food Industries, and USAID’s Trade Reform and Development in Egypt (TRADE) in Egypt.
He reviewed the importance of the company’s current projects in the Egyptian market that contribute to the needs of the local market and export to regional and international markets, noting the possibility of benefiting from the Egyptian market as a major industrial and export hub of the company for foreign markets.
Both sides discussed the challenges currently facing Mars in exporting products containing European-origin dairy to EU countries.
El-Houby explained that NFSA is in the process of overcoming those obstacles and resolving them in 2025 after examining the export requirements of the European side and in compliance with the Egyptian requirements and standards.
Rahimi, for his part, praised the role of NFSA as a monitoring body for the food production and circulation system, as well as its role in overcoming any challenges or obstacles to opening various international markets to the Egyptian food exports during the next phase.
Mars Wrigley is a regional exporter of its products to more than 30 countries in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Australia.
The US company aims for Egypt to be among the world’s top 10 productive markets for her.
