CAIRO – British Ambassador to Egypt Gareth Bayley lauded the accomplishments achieved by the Newton-Mosharafa Fund programme over seven years as the biggest historic partnership between Egypt and Britain in the fields of science and innovation.
Bayley was speaking to journalists on the sidelines of a ceremony held by the British embassy on Monday evening to mark seven years over the establishment of the Newton-Mosharafa Fund, a £50 million, seven-year science and innovation partnership between the UK and Egypt.
Since launching the program in 2014, it offered 282 scholarships to Egyptian researchers to obtain PhDs in addition to funding 69 research partnerships between Egyptian and British universities, he said.
The program focused on five main fields including sustainable management of water, renewable energy, sustainable food production, archeology and cultural heritage and health care at suitable prices, he pointed out.
The Fund brings together the British and Egyptian scientific research and innovation sectors to find joint solutions to the challenges facing Egypt in economic development and social welfare.
