ISMAILIA, Egypt – Energean Power; the newest floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) in the world, has successfully passed the Suez Canal, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Osama Rabie announced.
It has been the first time for an FPSO to pass the Suez Canal ever, he added.
Senior SCA guides have directed the Energean Power in its first sea voyage heading to the Mediterranean, Rabie said.
It is one of the unconventional crossing experiments as the FPSO was the largest unit to cross the canal, which needed complex navigational arrangements and measures over several days, he added.
The crossing lasted about 26 hours, Rabie revealed.
FPSO refers to a floating vessel located near an offshore oil field, where oil is processed and stored until it can be transferred to a tanker for transporting and additional refining.
