Chairman of the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA), Dr Tareq el-Houby, signed a protocol, and Dr Ohoud Wafi, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Haya Karima Foundation, to strengthen co-operation between the governmental sector and civil society bodies.
It included many aspects that support the role of NFSA in all matters relating to the food circulation system through the Foundation, as well as the adoption of the first model of central kitchens in Egypt, in addition to the effective participation in the Haya Karima’s development convoys.
El-Houby emphasised NFSA’s strive to improve the culture of food safety for the Egyptian citizen by tightening the control of all food production and circulation chains in order to enhance the food control system in Egypt.
Also, he stressed the importance of co-operation and integration between state institutions and civil society associations to support the neediest citizens and achieve Egypt’s Vision for Sustainable Development 2030 by developing and sustaining the food security system.
“One of the strategic objectives of NFSA is to raise awareness of consumers and manufacturers of the requirements aimed at ensuring the quality and safety of food to achieve the state’s goal of providing healthy, safe, and sustainable food,” el-Houby said.
The co-operation with Haya Karim will involve workers training in the food sector, thereby reducing the phenomenon of food waste in Egyptian society.
Wafi, for her part, emphasised that co-operation with NFSA comes in line with Haya Karima’s role to achieve food security for citizens.
She added that NFSA will participate in the various activities of Haya Karima, such as convoys and sustainable projects in many Egyptian governorates.
NFSA will participate in the Points of Light initiative, which aims to promote the development of seven villages, Wafi said.
Haya Karima will co-operate with NFSA to develop a mechanism to monitor the outlets of meat spread in the governorates to ensure that they comply with the Authority’s requirements in sales and storage operations.
