The Egyptian Cabinet Media Center has dismissed as groundless reports claiming that the government had the intention to extend the deadline for the initiative launched for Egyptians living abroad to import cars into the country, free of custom duties and taxes, after its expiry date determined by law on March 14.
The number of applicants for the initiative has so far reached more than 35,000, added the center.
The center, meanwhile, urged all media outlets to seek accuracy and objectivity before publishing news, advising them to contact bodies concerned so as to avoid sparking confusion among the public.
Earlier, the Cabinet approved a draft law allowing Egyptian expats to import one private car per person into Egypt free of customs duties and taxes, based on a set of conditions.
