CAIRO – Gold prices in Egypt have risen to a new historic level with the price of a gramme of 21-carat gold, the most popular in the country, reaching LE960.
The price of 24-carat gold recorded LE1,097 per gramme, while the price of 18-carat gold hit LE823 per gramme.
The surge came after the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) decided to up the interest rate.
The CBE decided to up deposit and loan return prices for one night, while the price of the CBE’s main operation rose by 100 points to reach 9.25 per cent, 10.25 per cent and 9.75 per cent respectively.
