CAIRO – Former International Monetary Fund Executive Director and Dean of the IMF’s Executive Board Shakour Shaalan has died.
IMF Executive Director Mahmoud Mohieldin mourned the passing away of Shaalan who departed after a life full of achievements and 50 years of work in the IMF where he had served in many positions since he earned his PhD from Columbia University.
In a tweet Mohieldin said the deceased was a great expert in international economic work, and held the position of director of the Middle East Department at the IMF, then represented Egypt, the Arab countries and the Maldives on its board of directors, which he had served as its dean for many years.
Offering condolences to Shaalan’s family and friends, he praised his diligence and dedication to work, saying he was a rich source of knowledge on the Arab economies and Arab countries’ fiscal and monetary policies and reform programs
