CAIRO – Egypt’s strategic reserves of subsidized sugar are enough till next April and reserves of refined sugar are suffice till next March, Minister of Supply and Local Trade Ali Moselhy said.
In statements during his participation in the 16th meeting of the General Assembly of the Intra-Africa Meteorology System, the minister said Egypt’s sugar production is 2.8 million metric tons, highlighting the government’s efforts to meet local market needs in this regard.
The meeting is hosted by the National Standards Institute (NSI), within the framework of efforts meant to promote cooperation ties among African countries on the various levels, especially in the research and scientific fields.
He noted that sugar prices at the market range between EGP 22 to EGP 26 per kilo, referring to a global increase in sugar prices amounting to dlrs 700 per ton.
