CAIRO – Egypt’s exports of ready-made garments increased by 35% during January 2024, reaching dlrs 259 million compared to dlrs 192 million in January 2023, signaling a promising start for the sector this year with significant growth.
Head of the Ready-Made Garments Export Council Marie Louis Beshara explained in a statement on Monday that the United States is the largest importing market from Egypt, totaling dlrs 106 million during January 2024 compared to dlrs 90 million, marking an 18% growth. Meanwhile, exports to European countries saw a leap of 42% to reach dlrs 54 million compared to dlrs 38 million.
She mentioned that Turkey imported products worth dlrs 24 million during January 2024 compared to dlrs 15 million, a 62% increase. Exports to Spain reached dlrs12 million compared to dlrs 9 million, a 35% increase, while exports to Germany increased to dlrs 10 million from dlrs 9 million, with a 13% rise.
Beshara added that exports to Arab countries also witnessed a significant increase of 54%, reaching dlrs 57 million in January 2024 compared to dlrs 37 million.
The UAE emerged as the largest Arab importing country from Egypt, with dlrs 23 million compared to dlrs 21 million, a 6% increase. Additionally, exports to Libya surged to dlrs 12 million compared to dlrs 4 million with a 243% increase.
