Egypt’s Petroleum Minister Tarek el Molla had talks with US Assistant Secretary of the Office of International Affairs Julie Cerqueira on means of promoting bilateral cooperation, especially in the field of energy transition and cutting emissions.
In statements on Wednesday, Molla asserted that the petroleum sector is looking forward to benefitting from expertise and technology offered by the US labs to its partners under zero emissions initiative.
He stressed Egypt’s commitment to various international treaties for protecting the environment and cutting emissions.
The petroleum sector seeks to expand its activity for supplying planes with clean fuel and producing it in Egypt.
He said Egypt seeks to boost its dependence on renewable energy to realize energy transition goals.
He referred to the initiatives of the East Mediterranean Forum to cut emissions and supply ships with liquefied gas in order to turn the region into an international center for supplying ships with liquefied gas.
For her part, Cerqueira stressed preparedness to fully support Egypt’s energy sector, especially the efforts exerted to cut emissions of various petroleum facilities.
She invited Molla to meetings of zero emissions initiative meetings that will be held in the US next month.
