CAIRO – Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel Wazir and Sudan’s Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Saif el Nasr el Tijani discussed Tuesday carrying out the development plan of the Nile Valley River Navigation Authority.
This came during general assembly meeting of the Nile Valley Authority for River Navigation that was co-chaired by Wazir and Tijani.
The meeting tackled progress achieved throughout the past period and the outcomes of contracting with 3A International company, the operator of the project, to manage and operate the assets of the Nile Valley Authority for River Navigation on the shipping line between the Aswan High Dam/Wadi Halfa ports.
Wazir and Tijani reviewed the implementation of the authority’s development plan, noting that the rehabilitation of 10 river units has been completed, with work underway on 3 others, and a plan for rehabilitating 5 more units, totaling 18 river units.
The development of the authority and cooperation with the private sector in managing its assets aims to preserve the
authority as a model of integration between the peoples of the Nile Valley and to help the Authority secure its fixed and variable obligations without imposing financial burdens on the Egyptian and Sudanese governments.
This will be achieved by implementing the development plan and improving the efficiency of the river units, which will increase the value of the Authority’s assets, enable genuine competition with land transport, restore the company’s previous success in transporting individuals and goods, and develop the loading and unloading system to be mechanized, leveraging the development of the Aswan High Dam/Wadi Halfa ports to contribute to increasing trade between Egypt and Sudan.
