The contract for the LRT electric train was signed Wednesday. Minister of Transport Kamel el-Wazir and French ambassador to Egypt Stefan Rumate were present at the signing ceremony.
The contract covers the management, operation and maintenance of the 19-kilometre line linking Adly Mansour, the New Administrative Capital and 10 Ramadan City.
Essam Wali, Chairman of the National Authority for Tunnels and chairperson of the French company RATP DEV Lawrence Patel also put their signatures to the document.
El-Wazir emphasized the depth of the Egyptian-French relations and the fruitful cooperation in the transport sector.
This contract is the second between the two sides to carry out the management, operation and maintenance work for Ministry of Transport projects, el-Wazir said
The contract for the management and operation by RATP DEV for the third line of the Cairo metro has already been signed, symbolising the continuing Egyptian-French cooperation.
Al-Wazir indicated that
The new line will serve16 stations on its route, el-Wazir said, adding that four trains out of 22 have been manufactured in China.
Trial operations are set for August 2021, and the first and second phases will be opened in October 2021.
The electric train will provide safe, rapid transport to and from Cairo, the minister said, noting that the system is part of the government plans to expand electric traction projects implemented in Egypt for the first time.
For his part the French ambassador said that the French company will make every effort to provide global levels of service in the management, operation, and maintenance of the two LRT electric train project.
