Minister of Youth and Sports Dr. Ashraf Sobhi met Chairman of the National Food Safety Authority Dr. Tareq el-Houby to promote co-operation and intensify joint efforts on raising awareness about the safe use of food supplements and seizing products of unknown origin, especially in fitness and youth centres.
They discussed the implementation of expanded awareness-raising campaigns targeting young people and athletes to identify the harm of anonymous supplements.
Sobhi emphasised the Ministry’s vital role in protecting young people from the negative impacts of such products by intensifying efforts in co-operation with bodies to ensure a healthy and safe environment within youth centres and clubs.
Both sides agreed on the need to tighten control to prevent any unreliable supplements from being traded.
NFSA and the ministry discussed organising workshops and joint training programmes on teaching sports workers how to detect safe products and promote healthy culture among individuals interested in sports.
El-Houby confirmed that they seek to build bridges of co-operation with various ministries and institutions in order to spread healthy food awareness and ensure the safety of products available on the market.
He also lauded the positive role of the Ministry of Youth and Sports in embracing such important initiatives, which contributed to the promotion of public health, especially among young groups considered to be most vulnerable to the effects of such products.
This co-operation is expected to contribute to the development of regulations and guidance that demonstrate best practices regarding the use of supplements in the sports sector.
