Prof. Mohamed El-Shenawi, Acting Vice President of Galala University (GU) for International Co-operation, Community Affairs, and Environmental Development, welcomed representatives from the Egyptian Clothing Bank (ECB) at GU campus; Mr. Moussa Ezzat, Deputy Marketing Director, and Mr. Mahmoud Essam, Head of Public Relations. GU and ECB signed a cooperation protocol to increase awareness for students and university employees about the importance of volunteer work and the clothing bank’s role in community service.
This visit comes within the framework of the societal role of Galala University in supporting the needy groups, and it is considered a form of social solidarity within the university. It aims to provide the necessary support and bearing responsibility in all life areas for marginalized communities outside the university campus. The Egyptian Clothing Bank specializes in providing clothing, leather products, and furnishings to guarantee a safe and dignified life for the people in need.
Under this agreement, the Egyptian Clothing Bank will conduct awareness campaigns inside the university for students and employees about the importance of volunteer work. The bank will place boxes inside the campus to collect donations from students and employees of Galala University. It was also agreed to organize an awareness campaign during Ramadan’s holy month to introduce the Clothing Bank’s various activities and the opportunities to volunteer in the bank’s various campaigns across different Egyptian governorates.
Prof. El-Shenawi expressed his happiness for signing this protocol, saying: “We are always keen to support the local communities in which we work, not only by launching various development projects and social responsibility programs, but also encouraging activities which enhance the positive participation by our employees and students. GU also supports other volunteer work and participates with entities to initiate various development projects to spread the culture of social responsibility for individuals in the university and activate their positive role in society.
At the end of the visit, the bank representatives had a tour of the GU campus. They agreed on setting up a project plan during the coming period, in line with the construction achievements inside the campus, till it operates at its total capacity and opens all academic fields with its various programs, which reach more than 60 programs, under 15 academic fields. Those fields and programs meet the requirements of the local and international labor market.
