Egypt’s monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) registered 143.6 points in December, upping 2.1 per cent on a monthly basis, compared to November 2022, said the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS).
Meanwhile, the annual headline inflation rate rose to 21.9 per cent in December 2022 up from 6.5 per cent in December 2021, according to CAPMAS.
CAPMAS attributed the rise in the monthly inflation rate in December to the increase in the prices of food and beverage by 4.0 per cent, the fruit group by 7.6 per cent and dairy products by 6.4 per cent.
At the same time, the agency noted an increase in the prices of grains and bread by 5.0 per cent, meat and poultry by 2.8 per cent, fish and seafood by 3.1 per cent and the sugar by 2.5 per cent.
