Economic co-operation and investment between Egypt and Morocco topped the agenda of a ministerial meeting Wednesday.
Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea met via video link with Moulay Hafid Elalamy, Moroccan Minister of Industry, Investment, Trade and Digital Economy.
It is important to translate the distinguished relations between President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and King Mohammed VI into tangible economic, commercial and investment cooperation to serve the interests of the Egyptian and Moroccan peoples, Gamea said.
It has been agreed to form a working group from the ministries of trade and industry of both countries to identify obstacles and challenges to trade and investment cooperation, Gamea added.
The group will be tasked with finding radical solutions to problems impeding the progress of these ties as soon as possible, she said.
She affirmed the importance of devising means to facilitate the access of Egyptian exports to Moroccan markets and vice versa, she added.
The Egyptian government is ready to provide all support to existing and new Moroccan investors in order to attract more Moroccan businesses to Egypt.
Gamea added that the Moroccan market is one of the most important and promising for Egyptian exports in the Middle East and Africa.
Total Egyptian exports to Morocco were worth $468 million last year and during the first half of 2021 they reached $265 million.
Gamea invited the Moroccan minister to visit Cairo for further economic cooperation and exchange of views on issues of mutual concern.
For his part, the Moroccan minister said his country would be eager to strengthen economic cooperation ties with Egypt in trade and investment.
