Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan el-Khatib said Egypt offers Chinese companies the opportunity to access more than 70 global markets through an extensive network of trade agreements, making Egypt a strategic centre for investment and manufacturing.

He made the remarks during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang.

The talks tackled means of enhancing bilateral relations and expanding economic and trade co-operation between the two countries.

During the meeting, the minister spoke about his plans to visit China for talks with senior Chinese government officials and business leaders.

Khatib urged the Chinese side to expand joint co-operation in strategic sectors, especially the automotive industry, batteries, and renewable energy.

He underlined the importance of establishing an annual Egypt-China Business Forum to exchange expertise and strengthen partnerships between the public and private sectors in both countries.

For his part, the Chinese ambassador lauded the strategic economic partnership between the two countries and welcomed the minister’s upcoming visit to China.

He asserted China’s keenness to enhance co-operation with Egypt in modern technology fields (such as 5G), satellites, and joint projects within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and the BRICS group.

The envoy confirmed the desire of Chinese companies to expand investment in Egypt, given the strong political and trade relations between the two countries, reiterating China’s commitment to global trade rules.

The ambassador commended the efforts of the Egyptian government under President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, especially regarding monetary reform and the development of infrastructure, including ports, railways, and roads.
