LUXOR, Upper Egypt – Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation El Sayyed el Qusair called on the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) to boost support to programs on food security, enhancing rural innovation, empowering women and youth as well the programs of financial inclusion and low-interest loans.

Egypt, through the Agricultural Bank of Egypt, provides a portfolio estimated at EGP 20 billion allocated for granting loans for agricultural projects with an interest rate not exceeding five percent, the minister said, pointing out to state’s directives regarding removing all hindrances facing the farmers.

During a meeting here with Afreximbank President and Chairman Benedict Oramah, minister el Qusair reviewed cooperation in the domains of promoting the food security programs and climate resilience.

Held at the Luxor Center Innovation and Knowledge Sharing Platform, the meeting was attended by Luxor Governor Counselor Mostafa Alham and Representative and Country Director of Egypt at World Food Program Praveen Agrawal.

Afreximbank President, meanwhile, said Egypt is capable of lifting the African continent to a higher level in the fields of food security and production, through cooperation and transferring the know-how.
