The Information Centre of the National Food Safety Authority announced in its 30th report, during the period from August 10 to 16, that NFSA’s General Administration of Factories Control carried out 116 supervisory inspections of food factories nationwide.
The Department of Control of Packing Stations and Centres made 34 visits and issued 403 agricultural export permits.
Beans topped the list of exports at 15,000 tonnes, followed by sweet potatoes at 12,000 tonnes, and frozen vegetables at 11,000 tonnes.
The number of exported vegetables reached 72 at an amount of 45,000.
Mango and strawberry exports were in the lead with 12,000 and 8,000 tonnes consecutively, followed by pomegranate at 6,000 tonnes.
Sudan, Thailand, Madagascar, and Saudi Arabia were the biggest customers for Egyptian products out of 160 importers.
Russia, followed by France, Ukraine, Australia, and the USA, were the biggest exporters to Egypt.
The Strategic Commodities Department carried out 1 inspection visit to wheat storage sites in Alexandria governorate and 1 other inspection visit to rice storages in Beheira governorate.
The General Administration for Registration and Licensing of Private Food registered 63 products, eleven companies, examined 800 new products, and issued 16 free sell certificates.
Complaints Management carried out 399 inspection campaigns to ensure the safety of food in a number of governorates.
Control of Commercial Chains has conducted 66 commissariats to ensure that their branches meet the requirements of food safety.
468 food establishments were registered, and 305 establishments met the requirements during last week.
The Warehouse Control Department implemented 22 monitoring missions in a number of governorates.
The General Department of Slaughterhouses conducted 11 inspection visits to poultry and meat slaughterhouses, as well as 69 visits to intestinal factories, in addition to issuing 33 permissions for exports to the EU.
As part of the development of the inspectors’ supervisory, a training programme was held on checklists of materials in contact with food on August 7 to 12.
The National Food Safety Authority (NFSA), as part of its role, has launched extensive inspection campaigns to ensure food safety. This came in line with directives from NFSA chairman Dr. Tareq El-Houby to tighten the control on food establishments in a number of governorates.
