NFSA checked 20 food establishments to ensure corrective procedures to raise public awareness towards improving food safety measures and promoting healthy food practices, according to the latest report from the Information Centre of the National Food Safety Authority, during the period July 6 to 12.
It included that the General Administration of Factories Control carried out 83 supervisory inspections of food factories nationwide.
Examination, inspection, and accreditation visits by the Department of Control of Packing Stations and Centres reached 30 and issued 816 agricultural export permits.
Onions topped the list of exports at 20,000 tonnes, followed by potatoes at 15,000 tonnes, beans at 12,000 tonnes, and 63 types of exported vegetables at 50,000 tonnes.
Citrus fruit exports were in the lead with 20,000 tonnes, followed by grapes at 11,000 tonnes and strawberries at 10,000 tonnes.
Saudi Arabia, Russia, Libya, and Sudan were the biggest customers for Egyptian products out of 170 importers.
Romania was the largest exporter to Egypt, followed by Brazil, the US, Ukraine, and Russia.
The General Administration for Registration and Licensing of Private Food registered 55 and examined 886 new products.
Complaints Management carried out 294 inspection campaigns to ensure the safety of food in a number of governorates.
Control of Commercial Chains has conducted 36 commissariats to ensure that their branches meet the requirements of food safety.
The Warehouse Control Department implemented 20 monitoring missions in a number of governorates.
The General Administration for the Control of Fish Products carried out 17 visits to fishing vessels, fish factories, suppliers, export companies, and processing units in various governorates.
The General Department of Slaughterhouses conducted 10 inspection visits to poultry and meat slaughterhouses, as well as 41 visits to intestinal factories, in addition to issuing 11 permissions for exports to the EU.
The National Food Safety Authority (NFSA), as part of its role, has launched extensive inspection campaigns to ensure food safety.
This came in line with directives from NFSA chairman Dr Tareq El-Houby to tighten the control on food establishments in a number of governorates.
