CAIRO- Egypt and Saudi Arabia called for an emergency meeting at the level of permanent representatives of the League of Arab States to discuss the situation in Sudan.
In a statement Saturday, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, said that the meeting is based on Paragraph 5 B of Article 5 of the League Council’s bylaws, which stipulates the possible convocation of the council when necessary, in an extraordinary session at the request of two member states.
The successive and dangerous developments in Sudan necessitate holding this meeting for consultation and coordination among the Arab countries to discuss ways to defuse the current crisis and work to restore stability to the sisterly country of Sudan as soon as possible.
